Summary:
Agricultural commodity markets are driven by products and information. Today, the nation’s data and statistical agencies face unprecedented pressure to assess their data products and reduce costs. As a result, there has been suspension, aggregation, and even in some cases, an elimination of data and statistical assessments critical for alleviating market volatility and uncertainties. The expert speakers will discuss the role of federal data sources in agricultural commodity markets – including dairy, livestock, and major grain and oilseed crops.

USDA ERS to Appear on C-SPAN

In 2011, a record high 15% of U.S. households lacked consistent access to adequate food. 

Access to Food in America will be the topic of "America by the Numbers," a C-SPAN series, that will air at 9:15am ET, Friday morning, December 28. Watch the show to see Alisha Coleman-Jensen, Social Science Analyst at the USDA Economic Research Service (ERS) discuss the latest food security data by poverty status, unemployment and household composition.

Most Fridays, C-SPAN’s “America by the Numbers” segment on its “Washington Journal” show features information from the federal statistical system. The program highlights trends and allows the public to call in or email their views.

C-SPAN Program Seeks to Share Federal Statistics with the American People

Each Friday, C-SPAN's Washington Journal airs a recurring segment called "America by the Numbers" that seeks to share federal statistics with the American People. The series features each of the 14 federal agencies that produce statistical data and have a principal mission to provide that data to the public. This list of 14 agencies includes quite a few that are relevant to AAEA, such as USDA-Economic Research Service, USDA-National Agricultural Statistics Service, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
