IAAE: Inter-Conference Symposium

Submission of full papers: Full papers written in English should be submitted via the ConfTool system NO LATER than June 1, 2017. The papers should be no longer than 10 pages total including Tables, and Figures (References do not count in the 10 page limit). Papers should be double spaced, use Times New Roman Font 12 with one-inch margins all around. The papers should provide a background section, a clear explanation of the core research question(s), data and methods used, results, conclusions and key references. Authors are asked to adhere to all stated requirements.

The corresponding author of each submitted paper commits to review at most 3 papers from other authors. In addition to obtaining a suitable evaluation, final paper acceptance is contingent upon the timely submission of the reviews for these papers.

Notifications of selected papers will be sent by July 1, 2017. At least one author of an accepted paper must register and pay the conference fee no later than August 15 for the paper to be included in the Program. All other Participants must be registered no later than September 1, 2017.

POSTERS: Some papers might be assigned to a Poster Presentation depending on recommendations made by the reviewers. During the Visual Presentation sessions, participants will circulate to hear your presentation and discuss your research. You should aim to present for approximately 5 minutes and then be prepared to answer questions.

ORGANIZED PANELS: We invite the submission of Organized Panels, with a due date of May 30, 2017. These proposals should be submitted by email to info@iaae2017talca.org. The Scientific Committee will be responsible for the evaluation and final decision regarding the proposals.

The purpose of the organized panels, which will be held as plenary or part of the parallel sessions, is to bring together 3-4 panelists that are working on a common topic, which may be related to the theme of the Symposium. The topic can focus on policy issues, research methods, emerging research results, and teaching or outreach. The sessions may have different formats but the typical arrangement is short presentations on a common theme. Regardless of the format proposed, all panels need to allocate an important share of the available time for interactions among the panelists and between the panelists and the audience (at least 30 minutes from a total of 90).

The Proposals need to include: session title; session rationale; names and contact information for the organizer and other participants; and a description of the format including plans for discussion. The proposal should be no longer than two pages.

Global Soil Security Symposium

The Global Soil Security concept is an opportunity to develop and promote the importance of soil science beyond our discipline. We invite you to the Global Soil Security Symposium to contribute your expertise and experience to further define the Soil Security concept.

On behalf of  the organizers,  you are invited to the  “Global Soil Security Symposium” being hosted at  Texas A&M University  in College Station, TX on May 19-21 2015 https://www.soils.org/meetings/global-soil-security.  Registration and abstract submission is open.

The conference organizers are Cristine Morgan (Texas A&M University) , Andrea Koch (US Study Centre in Sydney) and Alex McBratney and Damien Field  (University of Sydney). As well, the Borlaug Institute is co-sponsoring and helping us to develop a sound background and framework for the policy component. (other sponsors include Noble Foundation, United States Dept of Agriculture NRCS; Soil Science Society of America, International Union of Soil Scientists, Texas A&M Agrilife Research, and OECD’s Co-operative Research Programme on Biological Resource Management for Sustainable Agricultural Systems)

There will be experts and innovative thinkers from a range of disciplines including agricultural and resource economics, (rural) sociology, information technology, soil science, and agronomy to further develop the concept of soil security, and to work toward assessment and implementation strategies. There is expected to be about 150 participants including representative of US and Australian government. There will be a three-day discussion to address the five dimensions of soil security, which are the following:

1.      Capability--the intrinsic capacity of a soil to produce products and ecosystem services;

2.      Condition--the current state of the soil as modified by human activities;

3.      Capital--economics of soil services to Health, Environment and Food production;

4.      Connectivity--the social connection of soil managers and custodians and users of soil products and services to the soil (and to each other); and

5.      Codification - Policy frameworks to secure soil.
