2023 Symposia “Fields of Discord: Understanding the Intersection of Geopolitics and Agriculture”

The IATRC is organizing a one-day summer symposium on Monday, June 26, 2023.  This event will be delivered online and is free and open to the public.  The symposium aims to explore the complex relationship between geopolitics and agriculture, highlighting the potential for conflict and tension that arises from competing interests and priorities. This virtual summer symposium aims to bring together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the intersection of geopolitics and agriculture.

Invited Speaker:

Michele Ruta is Deputy Chief in the Strategy and Policy Review Department of the International Monetary Fund, where he oversees the work on trade and trade policy.  He had previous appointments at the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, and the European University Institute.  He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.   Michele’s research focuses on international and regional integration and had been published, among other, in the Journal of International Economics, the Journal of Development Economics and the Journal of the European Economic Association.  His books and edited volumes include The Impact of the War in Ukraine on Global Trade, the Handbook of Deep Trade Agreements and Belt and Road Economics.  His personal website can be viewed here.

The call for papers is linked here.  Submissions are open to IATRC and non-IATRC members.  Please submit your (up to) 750 word abstract at this website:  http://www.tinyurl.com/3w6fwzsk.  A decision on the submissions will be made by June 5, 2023.
