There’s plenty of food in the world, just not where it’s needed
By: The Philadelphia Inquirer & NNY360 - March 20, 2020
"There's a complicated web of interactions we don't often think about that's all part of the food-supply chain: truckers, rail cars, shipping, plant workers," said Jayson Lusk, head of the department of agricultural economics at Purdue University. COVID-19 impact on farm economy hinges on rebound time
By: Michigan Farm News - March 17, 2020
“It’s quite clearly going to disrupt how the markets work in the short run,” Malone said, “but it’s not like you can expect this massive boom in long-term demand for dairy products. It’s not like all of a sudden people are drinking way, way more milk or way, way less milk. They are just buying a ton of it right now.”
“I believe at some point yesterday corn and soybeans (prices) were both down pretty sharply,” said Newton of the D.C.-based ag organization. “The challenge with dairy is it has brought forward some demand, so you bring in and advance some of those purchases into the concurrent period. The longer-term challenge is in the event of processing plant closures, any challenges in the logistical supply chain — getting drivers to the farm and access to workers — we haven’t felt that yet.”

Local Opinion: Repressive state-laws can harm mental health
By: Arizona Daily Star - March 16, 2020
A popular theory about mental health for children and young adults revolves around increased social media exposure. Digital technology now allows for the quick and rampant display of narcissistic sentiments and even intentions to bully. Research in this area is developing, but it appears to be dependent on how users engage with social media. Indeed, some uses are connected to degraded mental health, but the picture is complex and evolving.
