USDA-ERS to Discuss “Household Food Security and SNAP” Live on C-SPAN’s "America by the Numbers"

About 47 million Americans (1 in 7) get assistance from food stamps, now called SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The 80 percent increase since 2007 reflects higher food insecurity and unemployment in the wake of the recession. Find out more on Feb. 14 at approximately 8:45-9:30 a.m. EST* as Mark Nord, a sociologist in the Food Assistance Branch at the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, discusses statistics about food insecurity, the use of SNAP, and relationships between food insecurity and SNAP use in the wake of the 2007-2009 recession.
