Employer Showcase to be held in DC

New this year at the Joint Annual Meeting in DC, AAEA is hosting an Employer Showcase to highlight employers that AAEA members and meeting attendees may be interested in. This is a one day event taking place on Sunday, August 4, 11:00am-3:00pm, in the Employment Center room (Exhibit Hall B South). Participation as an employer is free, and all annual meeting attendees are welcome to attend. Additionally, a professional photographer will be on-site offering free professional headshots to meeting attendees.

Call for Proposals: 2014 AAEA Organized Symposium at AARES

The AAEA is accepting submissions for the AAEA Organized Symposium at the Annual Conference of the Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) in Port Macquarie, Australia, 4-7 February 2014.

The Organized Symposium will be allocated a session 1.5 hours in length during the AARES general program. Organizers should submit a proposal for a complete session that will take up the full time period allotted. The format of the session may involve panel discussions of prepared questions, debates, roundtable meetings, paper presentations, or other formats. Whichever format is proposed, the organizer should ensure that the presentations fit into a tightly coherent theme and that there is plenty of time for discussion.

Submissions for the organized symposium should be sent to Brian Mondragón Jones ‎(bmjones@aaea.org) by July 31, 2013. Submissions (in PDF format) should include the following:
  • Symposium title 
  • Abstract of 250 words or less 
  • Organizer name and contact information 
  • Participant names/affiliations 
All presenters/speakers/discussants must be members of AAEA. A membership waiver request can be included in the proposal in the case of extenuating circumstances. In addition, participants need to register for the 2014 AARES Annual Meeting. AAEA cannot grant registration waivers for the meeting. It is the responsibility of the organizer to ensure all participants are willing to participate and meet the presentation requirements.

Submissions will be reviewed by the President of AAEA and the organizer of the selected symposium will be notified by the AAEA Business Office by August 16, 2013.

Discounted One-Day Registration Rates

AAEA and CAES are offering a one day registration option for the 2013 Joint Annual Meeting. One-day registration is available to anyone who is not presenting and is not an author on a paper or poster that is being presented at the 2013 Joint Annual Meeting. Registration rates for one day registration are as follows:
  • Member (before July 19): $200
  • Member (onsite): $300
  • Non-member (before July 19): $300
  • Non-member (onsite): $400

Summer 2013 Intern Briefings

C-FARE invites all students with an interest in economics who are interning in Washington, DC this summer to participate in their Summer 2013 Intern Briefings which will focus on careers with Capitol Hill, agencies and non-governmental organizations. The USDA Economist Group is co-sponsoring several of these events.

These briefings are designed to allow students to hear from professionals who have received a degree in agricultural, natural resources, or applied economics about their career paths and receive insight on potential classes to take, and other details regarding the necessary background to succeed in Washington, DC.

There are three events scheduled:
June 24, 2013 - Focusing on Capitol Hill Careers
July 15, 2013 - Focusing on Private Sector Careers
July 22, 2013 - Focusing on Agency Careers
